I recently had the pleasure of shooting a family wedding, sorta of. Roberta and Eric hired me last year to shoot their wedding day on the cusp of seeing what I did at Roberta's cousin's wedding - Tiffany and Amen.
You're probably looking at the pictures below and saying, family?
Yes, family.
You see, Roberta is Tiffany's cousin. Tiffany has a brother Donald who is married to my aunt Theresa. So there you have it...family!
This group of people is one I am very family with. It started with shooting their family reunion. Every few years this massive family gets together, dresses to the nines, and has a ball. I've become the family photographer and slowly but surely as the family gets added to through marriages and births I get to meet more and more people. So it's never awkward shooting one of these events because it's all hugs and kisses.
As for Roberta and Eric, they were a pleasure to work with. They were probably the easiest couple to work with. They basically did what I said to do and when I said to do it. You see, the thing people like about my work the best is that I work quick. After all, there's a party to get to. The last thing people want to be doing is taking pictures when it's time to party.
This was also the easiest assignment. Everything was in one location. Everything was at Christina's in Foxboro - a very nice place if you're looking for an all-in one-venue. Roberta got ready there, the ceremony was there, and the reception was there. It was fantastic. No running around. I could take my time and really enjoy the shoot.

Anina and Tom are a couple who hired me through Craig's List - the only sort of advertising I do for my wedding services. I was a little gun-shy at first because you really never know who you're going to be dealing with when you are meeting strangers (90% of my photography business is referral business).
Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised by Anina and Tom. They were a fantastic couple to work with. Their wedding was great. I reported to the bride's family's home in South Deerfield, MA. The ceremony was held on the campus of UMass Amherst, Johnson Chapel. The wedding had an old New England/Italian feel to it - canoli's an all! (grandmother made some killer canoli's. I managed to sneak a couple home for the wife!)

As you know, I had the honor of shooting the wedding of Lindsey & Billy a couple weeks ago. Since I've been doing weddings, I've met some very nice people. I've yet to have a bridezilla, a out of control mom, crazy grandmother, etc. I thank my lucky stars for that.
Lindsey & Billy's wedding was a blast. Everyone was very friendly. I felt like I knew their family for years and that I was a more of a guest than a vendor.
Part of their package includes a slideshow - something that I do for all my clients. It's a nice way to capture the day, add their wedding song and show off to friends.

A while back, I was interviewed for a story about planning weddings on a budget. Obviously, my contribution was about photography. The article, with my advice, finally ran in the May/June issue of Bridal Guide Magazine.
The best part is that I've already had one inquiry as to my services for a wedding as a result of the article, which is fantastic.
I never really imagined that this business would take off as it has. It's really all about word of mouth. The real selling point for me, I think, is that I'm ultra sensitive to the budget needs of the Bride and Groom. I remember my wedding and having a photographer who was part of the package. She was ok. I like most of the pics, but they are no way near the quality of some of the more talented photogs who shoot digital. With digital, you have more flexibility in terms of being creative - flexibility to turn a good shot into one that the client will absolutely love. Seeing that reaction is my pay day. I love shooting weddings and being honored as a participant in their special day. Having such a large role in their day is also a great challenge - one that I'm up to and one that I take head on.
Shooting a wedding is like a all day adrenaline rush. Everything happens once. The first kiss. The walk down the isle as husband and wife. The cutting of the cake. The first dance. Etc., etc. There are no do-overs. If you miss it, you're toast. I love the action. It's a lot of work, but the payday in terms of making your client happy is what it's all about.
So, thank you Bridal Guide Magazine. Keep the leads coming! And if anyone readying this is in need of a wedding photographer and you live in New England, I'm your guy. :)
