Blackberry Storm reviews

If you're a gadget geek, you have to love Walt Mossberg of the Wall Street Journal. The guy gives it to you straight. No BS. No company marketing spin. The guy just understands who these devices work, what flaws they have, what's great about them and how they stack up against the competition.

All the rage today and tomorrow will be about the Blackberry Storm. My fawning over it has been documented here (just as much as my fawning over the iPhone).

Here's what Walt has to say about the BB Storm:

Two other reviews that should be checked out if you're in the market for this device is Hiawatha Bray's of the Boston Globe and the USA Today review.

So maybe I won't get an iPhone

Cruising around the interwebs this morning and trolling through my RSS reader and I've been reading a lot of chatter about the Blackberry Storm 9530. If the iPhone does come to Verizon AND it can handle my Lotus Notes email, this might be a tough decision. Of course, this will be a self-funded item (non-work related) so I'm hoping that the costs are relatively decent so it doesn't kill the wallet. Rumors of the storm are in the $200 range without a new contract. We'll see about that.

November is the launch date so either I am an early adopter OR I wait to see what MacWorld brings to the Verizon line-up (read: potentially the iPhone).

In the meantime, check out this promo video.

iPhones soon to be attacked by ads

How long is going to be before pop-ups start infiltrating our mobile web-browsing, especially with all the iPhone hype.

This news confirms that we'll be under attack on the mobile device as much as we are on the browser.

Once the you know what hits the fan with mobile pop-up ads, it'll give birth to another market opportunity - mobile pop-up ad blockers. The real race, IMHO is the mobile browser. I've yet to use one that I am in love with. The Blackberry browser is ok. I've also used the "Internet Browser" that comes with the BB. Each of them, however, leave me feeling a bit shafted like I'm not getting a full experience.

However, when I browse the web on my iPod Touch, it's a different ball game - this, in itself, fuels my iPhone obsession.

Regardless, this is a tech war (ad technology vs. anti-ad technology vs. browser capability) that is really still in it's infancy stages. It'll take some time before the real battle lines are drawn.

Verizonwireless is spamming my pic/vid blogging

Seems as if wireless carriers are finding as many ways to plug their advertising into our daily blogging lives.

Any time I post to this blog with a picture of video, I get this messages:

This message was sent using PIX-FLIX Messaging service from Verizon Wireless!

To learn how you can snap pictures with your wireless phone visit www.verizonwireless.com/getitnow/getpix.

To learn how you can record videos with your wireless phone visit www.verizonwireless.com/getitnow/getflix.

To play video messages sent to email, QuickTime 6.5 or higher is required. Visit www.apple.com/quicktime/download to download the free player or upgrade your existing QuickTime Player. Note: During the download process when asked to choose an installation type (Minimum, Recommended or Custom), select Minimum for faster download.
It's total bullsh*t. I don't want any extra stuff attached to my posts. I wouldn't mind a small little signature or something, but this is a bit ridiculous. I was reading on another blog that someone had the same beef and contacted VZW. Apparently, this crap was added for "legal reasons."

Yea, right. If you're reading this and are a VZW PR person, please log this "clip" as an official complaint. I've been a long time customer and have never had another carrier. As a matter of fact, I have successfully gotten friends and family to switch to Verizonwireless because of the reliability of the network. Because after all, you need a good signal to have 24/7 connectivity.

So Verizonwireless, why not give us the option to "opt out" of this legal crap your dumping on us or how about shortening the message just a tad.
