Mass RMV sucks

I've been trying to call the RMV for about a week now. I've been on hold for a total of 60+ minutes in total. Each time, I never, never, never, never get through. I am starting to think that no one answers that phone and they put us in hold hell just so we can hang up and make plans to spend the day in line.

That's what I'm going to have to do. I'm going to have to take some time off work, sit in the friggin' line at the RMV for a couple hours. I know this is going to happen, but it doesn't make it better.

Why can't they clean their act up? Why can't the RMV streamline their process? What is so friggin hard about running it? Why do they always have idiots behind the counter? How come each idiot has a piss poor attitude?

Talk about an organization that needs reputation management.

Absolutely agree that Mass RMV sucks. I renewed my license online, and about 2 days later got an email saying it didn't process and I had to call them. I actually DID get through, and got a rather ditzy person who said she couldn't see why the transaction didn't process, and she completed the transaction and a few days later I received my new license. About two weeks later I had to fly, and the security person told me my license had expired! Sure enough, the new license had come with the old date. Fortunately I had another ID to use and Avis didn't realize I had an expired license. So, I called RMV and did wait about 30 minutes, and after many conversations the bottom line was they had processed a REPLACEMENT transaction, not the renewal that I'd paid for. They had the gall to tell me that after I had spoke with the RMV rep that I had gone online and requested a REPLACEMENT instead, and they even quoted a time and date that I had gone online to do this. AND, now I have to go stand in line and PAY again. Holy cow, what ARE they doing there???

Unbelivable, had licsence revoked in May because of OUI (4) four years ago in California. Had no idea I was in double jeopardy now. Paid California $978.00, attended 8 week course for Drunk Driving and put on UN-Official probation for 3 Years. Now four years later they want me to go to California or Massachusetts and complete another program to get my Mass Lic renewed. I now live in Vermont and have been waiting 16 weeks for a reply. How much more suffering would be adequate for the Ass RMV......god help us!

In my law practice, I deal with the RMV every day. They don't have sufficient personnel and resources to meet demands. They should monitor hold times and inefficiencies and address them. Telephone hold times of over an hour are not uncommon. This is inexcusable. The state should get its act together. If they put themselves in the shoes of the consumer, they would see how frustrating it is.

The RMV sucks ass.

My experience in the last month - Some bastard stole my wallet (and license). Called the RMV - waiting 1 hour 10 mins the first time and 45 mins the second. Some dope told me that I needed to come in - WTF - why not just cancel the original license and send me a new license in the mail? AAARRGGH. Fair enough I will go in. The idiot on the phone told me I just needed a passport and they would give me a new one. When I went there - honestly the look of the people that work there - I swear these are bottom of the pile - on appearance alone they should not get the job. Had to wait in front of 50 people for over 2 hours before being served. When I got to the counter the bastard told me a passport was not enough - AAARRRGGGHH. I needed a birth cert and proof of residence as well. Why the fuck didn't the guy on the phone, their website, the person giving out tickets say this in the first place. I am just getting a replacement anyway - I am standing right there in front of the dope - he sees my original passport on screen and still I need proof of address - Jesus fucking Christ. Anyway had to comply - lined up again the next day for another hour. Fuck sake. They are a bunch of idiots at the RMV.

"Waiting 1 hour 10 mins the first time and 45 mins the second." Where's the "customer service?" They need to be able to hire more people to meet their customer's needs. However, given the current financial crisis, this will not happen. I just hope they don't have to cut staff and make it worse.

RMV has always sucked! Rude, stupid, and retards are the people they hire and have always hired. IT is the old story of a little power used to its fullest to fuck up your day. The assholes couldn"t make it on a job that requires any I.Q.
I'd rather stick a knitting needle in my eye than face those imbeciles.

I've called so damn much and have put on hold everytime but a stupid ass automated line. I've stayed on hold for more than an hour in intervals, but I stay on hold for 10 to 20 minutes each time.

Mass RMV sucks AND blows!

Just got through to someone - shocker - after a 48 minute hold to find out where the heck my new license is??? Went to RMV branch two weeks ago for renewal because I had to take the vision test this time. BTW, that was a 90 minute wait (the little ticket said 23 minutes). Anyway, the lady at RMV said it would arrive by mail in 5-7 days. It's been 10 business days so far and nothing. I am traveling next week when the license expires, and all I have is a little piece of paper saying TEMPORARY NOT VALID FOR IDENTIFICATION. The guy on the phone told me that Massachusetts has a new license vendor and they are a wee bit behind in mailing out the licenses and that mine should be arriving in another 7 business days or so. Oh, the sheer ineptitude of this system is staggering. Our hard earned tax dollars at work!

PS - if I want to "expedite" the arrival of my license, I was told to go BACK to the RMV with my flight itinerary and see a manager. Ridiculous!

Thanks for letting me vent :)

The whole state of Mass sucks. Every part of the Mass legal and political system is setup to milk every penny out of hard working people. The people they hire for state jobs are based on the Good Ol'Boy network, not what you know but who you know. The laws are setup to fill the pockets of all the corrupt politicians and to buddies and to support deadbeat illegals. Take from the have and pass it to the lazy do nothings. The weather, roads, drivers, all suck. The people are inward snobs that think everything revolves around the red sox, celtics and other sports teams. I hate the state more and more as I find out more about it.

the reason why RMV sucks and will continue to suck for the next billion years is because they don't need to improve their service. they will be the only rmv service in MA, no other company will steal business from them. so they can continue sucking but we got no choice but to wait in their line for 2 hours

Moved in from Georgia.. guess going back to Georgia. Went to RMV today to get my driver license. Didn't know they didn't issue driver license on the spot! They do this in Georgia... You present yourself to the counter, 15 minutes you get out with a shiny license. What so complicated... We had lots of fun. Got the temp license. Saw the expiration data on it. will be traveling. So they had to back out the whole transaction. Made a lot of people happy. RMV don't know we are in 2010 yet.

This country is known for it's world superiority.. But it is truly sad to come to the hauling realization that when it comes to State and Federal Services to the PUBLIC and TAX PAYERS.. it's still at a third world country level.

I'll bet my story beats all of yours. I moved out of MA when I turned 18, and given my mental situation at the time it was probably the best move I had ever made. I had a small claims judgment filed against me for a vehicular crime I did not commit. The bastards at the Revere Police Department fashioned a false police report to the Insurance Company. I didn't pay it and they suspended my license there. Not only did that render me incapable of getting my license in any other state but the judgment amount had accrued over $600 dollars in interest before I had exhausted all of my avenues for trying to legally undo the mess (which was never undone of course). The "good ol boy" system of "favoring the crooked ones" is absolutely correct here. And going back to the DMV - where ARE all of the tax dollars of you poor MA middle-class suckers going? Sure as hell aren't going back in YOUR pockets. The MA DMV is an organization of latency and misdeed. It is as evil as the very legislature that regulates its existence.

Their hold only has two different songs. I can hum both perfectly all the way through.

It is a matter of just not enough money. If you have 20 clerks who must by law be given breaks, and a constant flow of customers coming in, there is a problem. You just gotta wait. All you fucking geniuses who like to complain, I'd like to see you do any better, given the budget constraints and the federal regulations the state must abide by.

See both sides
