Technology in '08

Three things keep popping up in the coverage I'm reading about technology in 2008:

  1. Bandwidth - we might start to see Big Dig type traffic online as more and more people are surfing. So whatever you do, no checking email at 9 am or 5pm. It'll be like a parking lot online.
  2. Mobility - you can't escape it. Wherever you go, you'll have access. Mobile phones are increasingly becoming your 24/7 connectivity device - SMS, web surfing, digital media, etc.
  3. Openness - more apps working with each other, cheaper PCs and laptops, etc. It's the "do more with less" syndrome. For years software and hardware makers have been spitting out products that pigeoned holed the consumer in terms of what they could and couldn't do with technology (see cell phone charges and cables as one example). Openness is where it's at. Lets all work together. The happier the consumer, the more they buy and use.
