T - Radio, say it ain't so

Seems like the good ole MBTA is finding more ways to make money, er, I mean, enrich the experience of customers. They proudly announced the forthcoming T - Radio.

BOSTON, Mass. — October 10, 2007— Today, T-customers at MBTA’s North Station, South Station, and Airport platforms will experience a unique information and entertainment pilot program designed specifically with them in mind. T-Radio is an expertly programmed radio format where informative news, entertainment and safety announcements are seamlessly integrated with music to appeal to Boston’s multi-cultural T-rider demographics. Conceived for the MBTA by Boston radio innovator, Rich Balsbaugh, of Pyramid Radio, Inc., the two entities worked collaboratively to design the format.

Are you kidding me? "...experience a unique information and entertainment pilot program designed specifically with them in mind." It should have read: "...will be subjected to heavy doses of advertising while waiting for late trains.

The T platform is the one place where I can zone out to all the messages that are constantly being flung at me. Yea, I know that there are print ads all over the place, but now they are going to fill the airwaves. Next thing you know is that T - Radio will be on buses. The same concept will probably carry over to other areas of our lives. Imagine being in the supermarket, hearing ads for chopped liver or a sale on coffee beans. What's next, advertisements on toilet paper?
